my graduation party was on saturday and it was a complete success. My closest friends all came and mingled with my family and life coaches. And by life coaches I mean i have weird old friends. Like 40 year olds. Its complicated. Don’t worry about it.
but the party was great. Aside from one disastrous number, Vague Babies performed pretty well. I made a dress the night before that turned out to be pretty adorable and worked out well for me. Pictures to come.
Today i’m going to get some ballin bubble tea from BeBoBa and then return some sound equipment and go see my lawrence, kansas buddies– Baby Birds Don’t Drink Milk.
We have some japanese students visiting from Kanagawa. They are really fun and really making me miss my time in Japan.
the family i stayed with was wonderful. Mom and Dad and Yuki, Yui and Yota. We went to this fabulous dance festival in the middle of toyota city and danced all night to the same song over and over again. It remains one of my favorites. I should make one of these Japanese kids listen to it. Oiden. google it. it was amazing. whatever. there is yota. eating an apple dipped in red hard candy. weird.
basically, i have wanted a working scanner for quite some time. i even forgot we had this scanner sitting around. so i scanned a few things today. rest assured that embarassing and/or cute pictures of me as a child are to come. for now:

image 1 includes my receipt from reckless records last week and a completely overworked to do list of school assignments. to break it down for you: first i listed all my classes chronologically and wrote down the stuff i needed to do in them. then i ranked all of the assignments in order of importance AKA how poorly i’m doing in that class. then finally i took the time to remind myself of the location of all the materials i need to do this assignment. here is an update. this is from march 6th and to date i have completed two of these. i really need to get down to business.

image two includes a mix CD that my friend Adrian made for my friend Emanuel but i had to be the courier service for. too bad i intercepted it and i took the liberty of putting this on my itunes before forwarding it to eman. i actually still havent given it to him. its sitting right here. and i even saw him today. oops. i’ll get it to you eventually. it also contains a bobby pin, and a Madeline who is completely psyched to be having her picture taken some day in Kindergarten in her velour dress. holla.
here is the flyer. coming to a myspace page near you.

*i have a solo project now. its called Madeline and The Big Cat Family. its ironic because its just me.
do you know i have a band? have i ever talked about it? i mention danny cohen sometimes on here. he is the other half of the band. you can buy us on itunes, amazon, and eMusic. Search for it. Vague Babies.
also: if you live in lawrence, Kansas, or near there, you should go to this show. BABT are my friendlies and they rule.
here is the scarf i made for him.

here is the show. it was hot on stage.

and if the picture alone isnt doing it for you: here is a video from the show that some guy took.
he is from georgia where it like doesnt get cold so i hope its at least scarf weather for the rest of his tour…
oh mah gahd you dont even know how good this stuff is. when i went to pitchfork this summer, fuze was a sponsor and they were giving away free samples all dayyy. so good. and at the end of the day i also realized i hadnt eaten anything, which, obviously, is not me. i think this stuff has an appetite supressant. i might be making that up. here goes a fact checking expedition:
okay so it looks like they have a few different kind of drinks, one of them called slenderize, which must have been the pitchfork plug because i didnt eat ANYTHANNg. they say nothing about appetite suppressant, but i will check the label if i can goad mom into driving me to CVS or something to pick it up because, considering i almost fainted on our expedition to CVS this morning when i was going to die if i didnt get some new facewash, she is not letting me drive.
anyways. that was a nice graceful return to me being sick. i am about to google for celebrities when they are sick. okay so all ’sick celebrities’ yielded were ‘healthy’ pictures of Michael Jacksone, Celine Dion and some Amy Winehouse-Drew Barrymore love child. whatever. i am not searching further. i’m sick and i need a nap.
On a usual drive to school I manage to get some quality music time. I spend more time than I should in the garage in the morning trying to decide what to listen to. This morning I was really pumped. I was going to listen to The Who’s ‘Tommy” on the rides to and from school. I get in my garage and although I had already made my music selection, I was delayed by another issue. My ipod was not in my purse. Sometimes my purse is just really junky so I spent a lot of time making sure it wasn’t hiding under a receipt from starbucks or a scavenged sewing pattern. By the time I had concluded that my ipod was for sure not in my purse I definitely had to go. So I pulled out. Sans ipod. And I did something revolutionary. I turned on the radio. WFMT was on and I’m a fan of classical music, but I dont need to be chillin that hard when I’m doing my best to stay awake at the wheel. So I decided I wanted to hear some oldies. It was glorious.
here is what i heard on the way down to school.:
Glorious. They do this thing called the ’short-stack’ where they have people send in 3 song mixes that all have something in common and people call in and try to guess their common trait. I was listening to the righteous brothers and the beach boys thinking this mix can only be 1 of 2 things: songs with sweet-ass male harmonies or songs that Bradford Cox/Atlas Sound should cover. It turns out Glen Campbell played on those three tracks, but whatever. I stand by my guesses.
::UPDATE!!!::
i was in second period when i wrote this. I opened my backpack during 4th and found my ipod had been thrown into my backpack rather than my purse. i never do that. an early morning accident obviously. Whatever. it was fate. if i hadnt misplaced my ipod i wouldnt have listened to the radio and had this terribly exciting post.
(by the way, animals can’t love. they arent self aware.)
but the music was good. the mix of lowbrow humor with highbrow humor and emotional circumstances was flawless. It might have sucked to see it with me the second time though because i reacted to everything in the movie about 3 seconds before it happened. sorry danny/kyle
